Eric Fischl: Pinned Mylar Collection
15/04/19 – 17/05/19
In his new pinned Mylar works, Eric Fischl (b. 1948) creates images that are both striking in their vibrant tones and infused with the subtle tension of figures twisting, reaching and pushing out beyond the boundaries of the picture plane.
The artist has re-imagined the technique used to create glassine collages in the late 1970s and early 1908s. Drawing on those early years, Fischl pulls his collage process forward using contemporary imagery and technology not previously available to him.
The prints are created by sublimation on Mylar, which is a heat transfer process, and digital pigment printing. The Mylars are then pinned in layers. The resulting work is fresh, arresting, and deeply tied to the historic roots of the artist.
