Yvonne Jacquette was born in 1934 in Pittsburgh. She studied at the Rhode Island School of Design from 1952 to 1956. She has worked in a variety of media including oil painting, pastels and wood block printing. She now lives and works between Maine and New York.

Jacquette has found great inspiration in New York City throughout her career. The high-rise urban landscape has led her to find new visual perspectives- with aerial view points of the city at night being synonymous with her work. She has worked from aeroplanes, and the top of high-rise buildings, and she once had a space in the World Trade Centre, which have all allowed her to gain this new perspective of New York, tracing its familiar landmarks and bridges with her unique style.

Over the last 23 years, Jacquette has produced over 18 monochromatic woodcuts, from varying view points. The geometric forms of the illuminated buildings, the twinkling streetlights and the reflections on the windows are all picked out in a bright white against the dense black ink of the background.

Jacquette received the Painters Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1990. She has also had over 20 solo exhibitions of her work, including one in recent years at the ‘Museum of the City of New York’. Her work is included in such collections as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C., The Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Staatliche Museum, Berlin, Germany.
